Karan's Sweatshop Abuses this Holiday Season [11-29-00]
At 1:00PM on November 29, 2000, women, youth, garment workers,
and members of the community launched the first of a series
of national holiday protests against Donna Karan's abusive
sweatshop conditions in New York factories.

Garment Workers, NMASS, and CSWA Win: State Supreme Court
"SLAPP"s Street Beat Sportswear for intimidating worker advocates
[10-19-00]
A State Supreme Court found that the StreetBeat clothing manufacturer's
lawsuit suit against workers, NMASS, and other workers' organizations
was a SLAPP suit (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Petition
and Participation), deliberately intended by Street Beat to
slander, silence, and intimidate workers who exposed the illegal
working conditions in Street Beat contracted factories.

Waiters and Busboys take Chinatown Restaurant Bosses to
Court for Racketeering and Extortion (9-28-00)
Restaurant workers at New Silver Palace brought a ground-breaking
suit against their employers under the Racketeer Influenced
and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Ralph Nader Joins New Silver Palace Picket [8-31-00]
On August 31, presidential candidate Ralph Nader joined NMASS
and the Chinese Staff & Workers' Association on the picket
line at the New Silver Palace in New York City. He pledged
his support for the Justice Will Be Served campaign.

Workers Comp Adds Assault to Injury: Guard Severely Beats
Injured Worker [8-8-00]
On August 3, 2000, an immigrant with asthma from years of
working with asbestos was brutally beaten by a thug hired
by the Workers Compensation Board.

Workers Launch Class Action Suit Against DKNY (6-8-00)
On June 8, a class-action lawsuit was launched against DKNY
on behalf of all workers making DKNY clothing in New York
State. Since the launching of the suit, more and more workers
have come forward to take a stand against Donna Karan.

Mothers Teach Donna Karan a Lesson (5-14-00)
On this Mothers' Day, New York mothers and children are celebrating
the work of mothers — in the home and out on their jobs
— and taking Donna Karan to task for the violence she
promotes in New York City sweatshops on women and their families.
Today's "Take Your Daughters to Protest" Day exposes the daily
violence and dehumanization that women across the country
experience in their work and lives.

National Ain't I a Woman?! Conference Comes to New
York City (4-8-00)
On April 8-9, 2000 the National Ain't
I a Woman?! Conference brought together women from
all different backgrounds to challenge the sweatshop conditions
that affect women across America. Youth, students, garment
workers, professionals, women on welfare attended. This conference
was sponsored by the National Mobilization Against SweatShops,
Chinese Staff and Workers Association, and Workers' Awaaz.
Missing Leg Invisible to Heartless System (2-17-00)
The story of Krystyna Maliszewska, a member of NMASS' Campaign
for Justice at Workers Compensation, was featured on the front
page of the New York Daily News on February 17, 2000. Her
story is all too common, and she is not alone in her fight
for just treatment from a system that blatantly ignores the
needs of working people in favor of the interests of business.
