Federal Judge Rules on the Rights of Injured Workers and 9/11 Victims to March in Albany On Monday, November 4, Federal judge Thomas J. McAvoy ruled on the right of injured workers to march on the streets in Albany. [11/4/02]

"International NAFTA Lawsuit to be Investigated by Mexican Government," Newsday (under construction) - In October 2001, members of NMASS and the It's About TIME! Campaign for Workers' Health & Safety filed a lawsuit against the United States and New York State Worker's Compensation Board. On December 4, in what has been described as an "unprecedented move", the Mexican government has begun a formal investigation into the problems of the delays and denials of Workers' Compensation. Paying Injury's Price- Immigrants rarely compensated for workplace harm- Newsday article by Thomas Maier (under construction) Since March 1998, Grodzki has been seeking compensation for a nearly fatal injury he suffered on the job. Yet after several delays and postponed hearings, Grodzki still waits to prove he was injured while working so he can receive some compensation from New York's Workers' Compensation Board, the main governmental agency providing income and health benefits to New York's injured workers. "International Lawsuit Shows New York State Workers' Comp System Violates Human Rights" Newsday (under construction) - In October 2001, injured and not-yet-injured workers leading our "It's About TIME!" Campaign for Workers' Health and Safety exposed to the world New York State's violations of workers' human rights by filing a lawsuit based on the labor rights agreement of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). We sent two members - Eva Herrera and Linda Allegro - as part of a delegation that went to Mexico City to initiate the NAFTA lawsuit against the United States and the New York State Workers' Compensation Board. Eva, an injured worker who has been waiting three years for her workers' compensation benefits, represented eight NMASS members who are plaintiffs in the NAFTA lawsuit. [11-27-01]

NMASS 5th Anniversary Celebration (Photos) - NMASS celebrated its 5th anniversary on October 27th! Over four hundred members gathered with family and friends to mark the occasion and to celebrate the accomplishments of working people. The banquet hall was draped with brightly colored flags that illustrated many victories of the past as well as the current battles against sweatshops today. A performance by injured workers illustrated the horrors of Workers Compensation Board and need to overhaul the whole system. The night also included poetry read in Polish, a slide show, breakdancers and music by the "No Timers". The highlight of the event was everyone in the audience singing "Happy Birthday to NMASS" in English, Spanish and Polish! [10-27-01]


"Restaurant Accused of Exploiting Immigrants", New York Times , by Robert Hanley
WAYNE, N.J., AUG 29 - Four former workers at a Chinese restaurant here and about 20 sympathizers demonstrated outside the establishment today, saying its owners and managers had failed to pay workers and forced them to return some of their tips. [8-30-01]
