Boycott Majestic Buffet -

Support the Workers!

Dear Friends:

A labor dispute is heating up in the quiet town of Wayne, NJ, where Majestic Buffet & Restaurant owners David Yeung and Jane Ho forced their workers to pay them in order to work.

Six servers have filed a federal lawsuit against Majestic Buffet for minimum wage and overtime violations and for stealing tips. The owners forced workers to work more than 70 hours a week without paying them a single cent in wages. The owners even forced their workers to pay $15-$20 from their tips per day in order to work at the restaurant. They regularly extorted money from the workers for arbitrary reasons. Servers had to pay a $10 “penalty” each time the owners deemed they didn’t clean a table, arrange plates, or scrub a dirty plate properly. They also had to pay for customers who walked out on their check. Furthermore, the owners cheated workers of their taxes, including their social security tax.

When six workers walked out in public protest against Majestic Buffet’s illegal policies, the owners resorted to threats and retaliatory actions against the workers. The owners still refuse to reinstate the workers, threatening them to withdraw the lawsuit and preventing other workers from speaking to them. A few days ago, the National Labor Relations Board filed a complaint against Majestic Buffet for these unfair labor practices.

Labor violations, such as these, are rampant in the New Jersey restaurant industry. Particularly in Chinese buffet restaurants in New Jersey, employers force people to work long hours without paying any wages. We call on the NJ state government and its elected officials to investigate these practices in the restaurant industry.

Support the Majestic Buffet & Restaurant workers and the JWBS! Campaign to fight for changes in the New Jersey restaurant industry by boycotting Majestic Buffet & Restaurant and join us:

this Friday, November 10th at 12pm at
MAJESTIC RESTAURANT & BUFFET for a
PRESS CONFERENCE and PROTEST
29 Route 23 South; Wayne, NJ 07470
(b/t Willowbrook Blvd. and Bloomsfield Ave., near Willowbrook Mall)

We demand that Majestic Buffet & Restaurant owners David Yeung and Jane Ho immediately stop these unfair labor practices, and reinstate the workers and compensate them for any lost wages.
