The New Silver Palace Workers Organize

Last Update: 12/7/2005

Although the New Silver Palace Restaurant no longer exists these workers continue to be at the forefront of fighting for change as part of Justice Will Be Served!

Since August 26, 1997, the former New Silver Palace Restaurant workers along with others in JWBS! have been part of the longest continuous picket in New York history -- and maybe in the country's history. First we picketed against New Silver Palace, later against the restaurant's landlord who was also owner of East Bank, and now we continue to picket against blacklisting by Golden Bridge restaurant.

Thanks to this continuous fight the workers won a major settlement from the New Silver Palace bosses for themselves, but more importantly together we have won shorter hours and better pay across many restaurants in the community, inspired workers in many different workplaces and communities to stand up, and set important precedents for all working people in New York State. Read about these accomplishments in the "Sum Up" statement below.

These workers continue to blaze a trail showing how working people can fight and win, despite the anti-worker nature of the courts and legal system.
