Phillip Wu, the owner of Golden Bridge Restaurant and the
Dynasty Supermarket chain, made slanderous statements and
threats against members of 318 Restaurant Workers' Union (318
RWU).
- Mr. Wu spread the word around that management "bought
off" 318 RWU and its members.
- At a September 24, 2004 press conference, Phillip Wu,
through his spokesperson discriminated against 318 union
members and stated that the union workers applying for jobs
at Golden Bridge are an "evil group of people".
Later, Phillip Wu and his company further elaborated that
318 was an "illegal organization".
- Phillip Wu's representatives used video cameras to record
318 workers who were applying for jobs, and then publicly
threatened the workers' union representative, by saying
"watch it c*nt!"
- On another occasion, two union members on their way home
after a union meeting, found two Golden Bridge affiliated
thugs with a video camera waiting for them outside of the
building. The thugs asked the union members threateningly
"Are you going home now? Where do you live?"
We, the workers, will not take it anymore. We DEMAND that
Golden Bridge Restaurant and Phillip Wu:
- Immediately stop discriminating against union workers
- Stop making threats against union workers;
- Publicly apologize to the workers;
- Immediately hire 318 members who have been discriminated
against, and compensate for losses suffered by the workers.
We will continue to picket Golden Bridge Restaurant as long
as Phillip Wu and the restaurant's management refuses to apologize
to us for the harm they have done.
The actions of the 318 RWU members are being supported by
workers of Jing Fong Restaurant, Harmony Palace Restaurant,
88 Palace Restaurant, Ocean Palace Restaurant, Jade Plaza
Restaurant and CLM Restaurant.
