Bloomberg's administration is pushing a racist rezoning plan
that will protect the predominantly white and wealthy East
Village from high-rise development, but encourage developers
to bulldoze the poor neighborhoods of Chinatown and Lower
East Side and displace hard working families and small businesses.
If we don't fight today, what will Chinatown/ Lower
East Side look like in five years?:
- The plan lures developers to Chrystie, Delancy, Avenue
D and Allen St. with height bonuses and tax breaks, which
will create a wall of luxury high-rises surrounding Chinatown
and Lower East Side, dividing and destroying the community.
- The plan will not provide a single unit of low-income
housing; it only gives a token incentive of 20% so-called
affordable housing for 80% luxury housing. Existing low-income
housing will be lost.
- The plan encourages high-rise development in the community,
which will raise rents and cause working families and small
businesses to be unable to survive here.
We have to immediately stand up and protect the community:
- Stop the racist plan that excludes and will displace people
of color, working families, and small businesses in Chinatown
and LES.
- Demand the entire community be included and protected
from high-rise luxury development.
- Demand preservation and building of more low-income housing,
not phony affordable housing.

Racist East VIllage/ Lower East Side Rezoning Plan
